Thermostat Help/Suggestions

Thermostat Help/Suggestions
I did the search and didn't see a direct question to what I would like to know.
1. Where is the thermostat on these 2005-2205 4.6L GT's. It doesn't look like what I am familar with seeing on most cars (gooseneck bolted on the intake). I see a metal thing coming off the upper radiator hose, is that it?
2. I see that 180° is the common answer to temp selection for the thermostat. Any recommendations on a manufacturer?
Thx,
Mike

RE: Thermostat Help/Suggestions
I've been told that newer cars run a hotter thermstat. Higher water temps equal better running for the car. I haven't run a 180 degree stat in my rides in many moons....

I'd recommend talking to the people who make the tune you're running on your car. If you're running the factory program, stick with the factor 'stat temp. On my 32valve 4.6 I run a 180 deg stat and colder plugs to keep combustion chamber temps down a bit and allow for a bit more timing to be added. But again, check with the people who wrote your tune. They'll be able to tell you what's best for your application.

RE: Thermostat Help/Suggestions
The 05 /06 Mustang GT's come with a 180 thermostat from the factory. Instead of being in a housing bolted to the block or cylinder head, it is located in it's own housing that lies mid point in one of the radiator hoses on the driver's side of the engine bay.
The 05 / 06 Mustang GT's are the only modern cars I am aware of that do not use a 190 - 195 degree thermostat from the factory.
