Hello,
I have V6 2006 Base Mustang that has a coolant leak. First I noticed it leaking from the undercarriage where the oil pan drain plug is.
Then I tried to find the source of the leak, I noticed a puddle of coolant coming form the thermostat housing. The car is not over heating, it has only leaked once and stopped. I recently added new coolant to the car as well before the leak. And the coolant that is leaking is not milky, is just clear neon green coolant color.
From the pictures does it look like this may be a thermostat housing coolant leak or something else or is there no way of telling from the pictures and videos?
That is the thermostat housing leak, very common and very easy to replace. Best to replace it with the aluminum version because the plastic one will fail again at some point.
yeah, thats what I was thinking. I just wasn't sure.
I didn't know they made an aluminum version only plastic.
I typically go to Rockauto, do you know who sells the aluminum kind?
Thanks for the info
You can get a plastic replacement with lifetime warranty from most any national auto parts chain. Keep the receipt in the glovebox, then you can replace it no matter where you are if it fails. That's what I did anyhow, and it hasn't failed again. My guess would be that the ones with lifetime warranty have been redesigned to hold up.
I just used the cooling system pressure test this morning and yeah its 100% the thermostat housing. As of now, I haven't found any other leaks. So now Im going to change it, I might change the whole Thermostat Housing Assembly. Thanks for all the help
