Default Thermostat ?

Ok... I am fairly sure my car is using the stock thermostat...which I'm thinking is a 190? Its a 96 gt. Will going to a 180 by it self keep the car any cooler...and will this require a tune or is it a self regulating sort of thing? It just seems the car is running a little hotter in these hot summer months. Should i just flush the system and add an additive? Im at a loss here so anything will help. It seems to get pretty warm when i romp on it. Thanks

It's going to run hotter in the summer months. That's why they call it summer.

How do you know it's running hotter? Do you have an aftermarket temp gauge, 'cause the one in your dash is junk like all Mustangs.

180 most likely will not harm your engine nor does it require a re-tune.

Make sure your fan is on when it should be and if it gets hot when romping it, don't romp it.

I know, I've heard it before.

you wont see any difference unless you have the fan on pulling hot air from the radiator... so like he said tune it, with a diablosport or Xcal 2

you don't have to tune it, the only difference it will make is the car will take longer for the heater to get warn in the winter, i have a 180 in mine and i swap it back in the winter,.....brrrrrr

I had my car tuned and ask the tuner the same question. The computer will adjust to the 180 stat, not the tune. I've had mine in and without a real guage to measure, I havn't noticed any change in temp. fr the 190 to the 180 on my stock guages. I also used that purple ice and havn't noticed anything.
My fan run's alittle more, but I beleive thats was set up with the tune.

Umm I could be wrong here... but changing the thermostat on your car is just going to change the temp. at which the thermostat will open up... right? It seems like doin that won't affect your engine's operating temperature at all, it will just slowdown-by a minute or two-how fast your engine will reach that temperature
