Default 1996 mustang 4.6 GT

my 96 gt was recently involved in a collision. i know at least the side skirt the quarter pannel and the door need to be replaced. about 4 out of 4 experts calculate that there is no frame damage. all signs indicate the vehicle is still in allignment and that there is no funcional or mechanical problems. i am attempting to peice together the replacement parts and then take it to a body repair shop. i will be able to have some pictures up probably in a couple of weeks. im looking for suggestions. i know it is hard with no pictures and no knowledge of the extent of the damage; but anything will help. if you have any specific questions or want to talk to me about it post a response. thanks.

where are good places to locat parts consisting of 96 gt doors, quarter pannels, and side skirts besides junk yards. would it be worth it to purchase most or at least the door from ford. how hard is it to place the old lock into the new door. would it be as expensive to purchase a new door as to fix the old one. also i have been smelling and loosing fuel. there is no leak spots under the car. all aparrant indications are that all cylinders are firing and in time. the air filter is clean. the car sat for a while at the dealership without being run. i susspect the fuel cap is not sealing, but it feels and appears to. is there any other factor to consider?

There is nothing wrong with buying parts from a salvage yard. I would start at www.car-part.com for used and www.50resto.com for new parts. the last place I would go to is the Stealership they charge way to much for parts. also try ebay for parts.

I bought my 96 GT after it had been rolled, I had to replace rocker panels, both doors, mirrors, headlights etc. In addition to alot of body work. I found the best place for doors was a junk yard, replacing the lock is a piece of cake. I even had to convert mine from power to manual. I WOULND'T recommened that, though. Fords new doors are running close to $700, I got both left and right for $200 and that comes with glass, interior plastic, door handles, everything, unlike the Forrd doors (if I remember correctly). Everything else I got off ebay, it took me a while because I bought my stuff from individuals instead of the guys who sell tons of new parts. I don't know where you live, but if you are anywhere near Kansas City, there is a really good store there that sells used stuff at a decent price.

Hope this helps a bit.
