Default runing a cooler thermostat?

I have a 04 GT that is closin in on 50k miles and i am going to change the coolant but my question is should i put a cooler thermostat in? if so which one and are they even worth puttin in over the stock stat? any advice would be appreciated thanks

I would, also use a programer to have your fans come on at a lower temp.

If you go below 160 degree's then you will throw a CEL on a cold day because there is a heat timer to get up to that degree level. At least thats how it is for the V6, its probably the same for the GT.

I think 180 is a good t-stat to use, now thats for a V6.

so i should run the 160 degree for my GT then? or a 180 degree?

they were saying to go wtih 180 and 160 was too low

Another thread of not, I run a 160 in my car and use the programmer to turn the fans on sooner. Cool running for me baby!!!!

No real performance gains from a cooler T-stat. YOu really want to try something use distilled water with Redlines' Waterwetter. That'll make everything cooler and dissapate heat more evenly and rapid. Never any debate with WW, stuff just works!
