Head swap

Head swap
I just complete a head swap from a 96 to a 99. everything went pretty well, but the lifters aren't happy. Bought the heads off ebay. Oil presure looks good, but I'm getting tons of chatter. Thinking about putting a quart of special lifter oil in it to help them presurize. Any ideas or has anyone one expereinced this before? Thanks, Robert

RE: Head swap
The only way to fix lifter noise is to replace the lifters. Buy the lifters aftermarket not from ford! They are like 20 bucks a whack from Ford, but are only about $10 aftermarket. Also you don't have to take the cams out to replace lifters. If you rotate the crank manually you can get the cam lobe off the rocker arm and just pop the rocker arm off with a pry bar and pull the lifter out. The hardest part on a 96 is getting the driver side cam cover off, those shock towers are a PAIN!!

RE: Head swap
Thank you. I think I'll practice this on my old 96 heads. I can tell you when I started it up yesterday and it scared the crud out of me. As it ran it seemed to get quieter, but it's still very loud. Thanks, Robert

RE: Head swap
lol. yank the engine. Much easier. Also, does it do it all the time, bcause it will make noise after you do the swap. If it does it all the time, make sure youre resources are better. lol. Maybe the guy was selling them for a reason.

RE: Head swap
Hey, any link to a head swap walkthrough? I want to do mine, but have no idea how to proceed. I did a PI manifold swap from suggestions in here, and it came out beautiful. So now I'd like to do the head swap. Any hints? Thanks!!!
