RE: anyone heard of fiberglass hoods flying up?
Before we all get away...
I think NHRA has something in the rule book about hoods and I think they say that you are supposed to use pins for hoods/decks etc so the starter can see that the stuff is really fastened down.
THIS IS WITH F/GLASS HOODS/DECKS ONLY
An alternative would be Dzus fastners, but I've seen them fail a few times....

Yes it is a common occurence w/ fiberglass hoods but it can happen w/ any kind of hood. Basically like pro50sc said if your hood latch is not properly adjusted it will most likely happen. But the reason why it happens more often w/ fiberglass hoods is because the latches are fiberglass as well and if you don't get a quality hood it will wear down over time and break causing the hood to fly open. I personally use hood pins because I have a pin on only hood, but if you adjust it right you may not need them but I personally prefer to use them, it's not required just a personal thing, but drag racing does have some stipulations on it.

The only way it happens is if the hood latch isn't adjusted propperly. I've had one for over 3 years now and never a problem. No hood pins. It's b/c the ppl installing don't know what they're doing.

My hood has been on my car for over 3 years too.........Mine was NOT correctly adjusted and it blew up (thank God for the hood release mech)....so we correctly adjusted it and now I have no problems.

My fiberglass hood was supposed to be bolt on but theres no way you could make the factory latch work with the hood. So I just stuck a cheap set of hood pins on and called it a day. Also don't buy from champion fiberglass, there hoods suck.

Two words.... Zip Ties!
LOL....
Any car's hood can pop up if not adjusted right. Mine is stock and it pops up on the freeway sometimes...thank goodness for the safety latch. I readjusted mine a while ago and still haven't gotten it right.
Hood pins aren't necessary for street use but it is an added security.

I have one that it happened to, however contrary to popular belief u dont need hood pins , they make fiberglass hoods that bolt right on to the stick hinges and latches so as long as that holds up you should be good, cause believe me, its not fun to hit 1st gear hard and see the engine from the driver's seat.
