under load i can notice a change in tone from the engine. its like a gushing sound. the motor is working harder but the car isnt going anywhere. am i just feeling the automatic lag?

i want to just tear the motor apart and rebuild it but if my tranny is the weak point at the moment that will certainly change my priorities. obviously the AOD is weak but it should be able to move the 5.0 better than it is right now...
