I have heard of this as a regular problem. You running OE ingnition components? Feel like it's almost rev limiting? Mine did the same thing, changed cap, rotor, wires, no help. My buddy had the same problem with his 89 and a new MSD dist fixed it. That's what I'm going to try next. double check timming.
