Default t5 transmission question

A buddy of mine has a 96 3.8l -stock- and his transmission went out. I have my stock t5 transmission from way back. Could he swap that into his car with any problems? What is the factory input spline on our 5.0 t5? what about the input spline in the 3.8 if you guys happen to know?

IDK but Ford must have confidence in the T-5 if my 2010 V6 has it!

from what I have seen if your old t5 is a 10 spine input like the newer ones it all will go in no problem....but if it came off a 5.0 like u say u are going to need to change the pilot bearing in the v6 car to a 5.0...the best thing to do is check the spec ny punching in the tag numbers on a t-5 website and check shaft dia....but in reality it should drop in and with a change of the speedo gear and that pilot bearing u should be fine...I have seen the swap go the other way from a v6 car to a 5.0 and the pilot bearing and speedo gear are the only issue on the v6 trans input shaft...hope that helps

Also if that t5 came out of a gm car the input shaft is completely different it would be a 28 pline

The trans came out of my 5.0 abou 5 years ago and has done nothing but collect dust. So when my buddies 96 3.8l v6 trans went out I offered him the trans for free bc iv'e had no use for it. audiogod, you mentioned a website that i can use to check the specs with my trans tag, what is that site?

best site I have found and punch speedo gear in on ebay and theres a guy/lady thats all they sell and u can get the right one. They also have a calculator if you changed the wheels or tires to get u the right one...check the input shaft pilot dia and u might not have to change the pilot bearing but if u do change that pilot bearing to a 5.0 one and pop that puppy in and rip some rubber...oh yea v6....my bad...lol
