Default 93 Mustang X-pipe Catalytic Converter failure

Ordered complete Magnaflow exhaust, equal length shorty headers, x pipe cat back, rear mufflers, from American Muscle (AM) 2011 big $, 2012 x pipe rear cats failed, in 2015 they failed again, now in 2019 failed again. 93 LX 5.0 convertible, pampered less than 80 K miles. Magnaflow claims overheating, digital temp says otherwise. anybody else have this issue?

i have off-road stuff personally.

When they say overheating, i would think it would be exhaust temp they are referring to.

Does the xpipe have an airtube welded to it thats requires smog pump air?? If yes & the metal pipe at the diverter valve isnt connected or a component of the smog system isnt functioning correctly or at all, that will cause the converters to clog & fail because the converters wont receive smog pump air.If the converters dont require fresh air from the smog pump,an engine thats running rich all the time can cause the converters to overheat and fail eventually.

No smog pump, Fuel injected, computer controlled, not raced or molested engine, only put about 10K miles on 3 cated X pipes. Rear cats failed not front, no excessive fuel consumption. I think material in rear cats are cheap Chinese crap that Magniflow uses to save $.

I just looked at the two Magnaflow catted xpipes for the 86-93 5.0 Foxbody available at AM and both of them indeed have an airtube welded to them. This means they require the smog pump to be used and the pictures of a customers car outfitted with one of these xpipes,in the reviews section, shows the metal pipe for the smog pump air to travel through connected to the airtube.Smog pump air isnt used for the upper cats. Its used for the lower cats only because their internals and the enviroment they deal with are different from the upper cats.Thats also why the airtube is placed so far down on the pipe, because the upper cats dont need the extra air from the smog pump. The following link explains how the cats work in a Foxbody designed h/xpipe. Open the link, scroll to post #10 and read the section about:
Theory Of Operation/Cat Converters
