Is it okay to rev my engine to about 5000 RPMs. My automatic mustang gt convertible has 122,000 miles. It runs strong and everything, but I wasn't sure if high RPMs would hurt it or not. I don't want to tear up my car, but I like to drive through town, put it in neutral and rev my engine real high.

It surely doesnt help it. I would say if you like doing that you should have bought a 5spd.

I would really suggest that you not do that, it's not good but it's not bad. The only times that my engine gets rapped up above 5 grand is when I'm racing.

that is not a good thing...that high of milleage i'm surprised you havn't burn't your valves.i might blip the throttle
once in a while, but that's about 2k less in rpms.just put some cut-outs on it,and then you'll won't have a need of revving that high.

it depends on the condition of ur engine just dont put it back in drive while the the engine is still revved up not good on a slushbox i am converting mine to 5 spd because a stock auto is just to sluggish for me and i would go a head and convert it over than a a stall converter, etc

I wasn't meaning that I am like showing off or anything. Just once in a while when I get with my friends, we like to rev our cars up to see what they sound like. It is really stupid actually. I am from a small town, where the koolest thing to do on the weekends is sit in town and talk about your car. lol
