Gears?
Yeah guys, 2V mod motors (to a certain extent), 3V's and 4V's thrive on gear. Our motors need to be built up and given longer legs to utilize the torque they make. They don't live on the knife edge of RPM's, they're stump-pullers that make their power down low. "Don't fear the gear" shouldn't be a credo for 5.0 motors. 3.55's for a nice H/C/I build is perfect, a H/C/I with forced induction whether turbo or blower pushing decent boost make 3.27's a nice choice in my books. Most people would more than likely disagree with me but I'm a fan of top end without constantly looking at my tach and worrying about a plume of smoke filling the passenger compartment, the bulletproof status of the 5.0 notwithstanding...

i DD my car with 4.10's and have no issue's.
You have to be able to slam 1-3rd to get a good track time, but other then that there is no down side for me.
even though i have stock head's my car rip's hard with 4.10's, If i put out 400+rwhp then id want a shorter gear, but even with the nitrous i think 4.10's are great.
but i beat on my car more then I putt-putt around.
i drive at 1800-1900rpm(55mph) to work daily with no issue. 2100-2200rpm is 65mph, 2500rpm is 70-75mph.
so for this guy to be running 3900rpm at 70mph, i think he has 5.56's installed or something crazy lol.

OP, either you have a MUCH steeper gear then 4.10's or your tach is broken.
Please refer to the bottom chart in post #20 if you have any other questions.

And for the record I'd like to see a documented video of a 5.0 motor with 4.10's spinning a leisurely 2400 @ 70mph. My buddy had them in his car that I rode in and I know for fvcking sure they weren't 5.16's...
I don't know what to tell you brah but 4.10's seem like too much for an oldschool pushrod motor. You know my mods and 1st gear in my car as it is is pretty sketchy gettin' out of the pit without abusing my clutch. I just figure build a motor and stay with longer legs. Different strokes blah blah blah. I'm glad you're happy with the 4.10's. We should match up on the highway one day ;-)
lol, ill line up with you on the highway, but you might not like the outcome

I wish i have the money to put in a motor that does not need steep gear's (357w 150shot is the goal) but the 4.10's work great for me right now.
lol, i will make a video to prove it. Dont have a speedo' gear in the tran's now because i bought a white gear like a retard and they are for 3.55/3.73's.
haha, Yea first for me is about 0-20mph, if i spin off the line, i have to shift just at the stageing light's as the Cobra T5 has a 3.55 first gear ratio.

I may not like the outcome? For how long? Just stay off the bottle and give me some real estate and I like my chances my friend ;-). My plans have a rev happy 306 in the works and I know your 357W would kill mine at that point but here in BC I need something I can insure...
yea, emmission law's here is stopping me from doing much more to this thing. But if this house we are looking at goes through, we will be moving to east colorado, where there are no emmission restriction's. So then it would be perfectly fine to start building a nasty 357w that is daily driveable.
