Default Which heads to go with

I recently bought a 1986 mustang lx with a 1994 5.0 motor in it. I have some spare engine parts laying around and 1 of those is a set of 351w DOOE heads with roller rockers. I was wondering if it is worth it to put on the 351w heads or leave on the stock 302 e7te heads as it is running fine with them.

With a lot of port work, those heads can be real good choice. There is a guy around here running a stock stroke 351, with dome hyper pistons and those heads running 6.10s with a shot of nitrous. The cam isn't even a roller. Pretty good for stock irons I thought. I actually thought about buying the heads from him for 600 just to say I was running stock Ford irons. He doesn't want but 2 grand for the whole motor. Keep in mind though, he did about 1500 dollars worth of porting on these heads himself.

Thanks for an actual anwser TrimDrip. Both of these heads are basically stock and I really don't have that type of money to put into heads. So i guess i should stay with the stock heads if it takes some big bucks to make the 351w run as good as e7te

if the motor is running fine, I would leave it until I upgraded up to an aluminum head. The heads I am thinking about were actually 69 heads I believe. I am not sure if the 70s model are the same or not. It would also take a long time to do the port work. If you did do the port work, you have enough time in them in labor that you could have went out and got a side job to buy a set of aluminum heads.

the '69 windsor heads are basically gt40 heads and are really good for a stock head. IMO much better than e7's

the problem is with the valve seats, we use unleaded gas and those heads need hardened valve seats.

by the time you do that your better off just buying gt40 iron heads.

the DOOE's are worth about $150 all day long, ive bought and sold a few sets cuz it's an easy sell

'93 cobra heads can be bought for $300 if your patient, i don't like gt40p though

so the rest is up to you..... if by chance those valve seats were done...... i'd spend $200 to have the exhaust opened up and smooth out the intakes in the turns.

if not.... keep whatcha got
