So I have a retard as a friend..

I made a habit of checking the water regularly previously because there WAS a faulty hose. That was changed last month, but I still check it. Oil, I just check it regularly because it is a good habit to have.
I didnt drive my car to the river because my buddy who is using my stang lives in another city and it was in his possession at the time. I rode with my roommate to the river.
Water pump NEVER gave me problems before. Perhaps it did have a minor dripage leak that I never caught. While it was leaking excessively after this incident i crawled underneath and saw the source was where the pump meets the block. I believe the gasket went out during this ordeal due to the extreme heat of the engine.
I take full responsibility for the damage to my car. Obviously something was not right prior to this trip which I never caught. At first i was pissed at him, but upon further thought and inspection its quite obvious I am at fault here. I understand that. Im damn lucky the engine didnt grenade.
So, do a compression test. Anything else I should test?
And my apologies. This should have been posted in general tech

^^^^I'm lazy, personally I'd just replace the pump then drive it and see if all is well you could run a block check if desired and monitor oil consumption after all is repaired, if you got it so hot as to torch the rings a compression test would indicate such

you arent at complete fault. your buddy was in possession of the car and you gave him instructions to fallow while he had it and he obviously didnt fallow them. the water pump could have gone bad during the trip and thats what caused it to lose all the coolant and over heat in the first place.
