What got you into Mustangs?
hettar sounds like my dad! I got a 65 coupe when i was 15 as incentive to get away from the computer and get my grades consistant and pretty good. What got me into mustangs was when i was about 11 my dad bought a shelby cobra (polished aluminum looks like chrome!) we were at a show and i saw a whole bunch of mustangs in the North Texas Mustang Club. My dad bought a 70 MACH 1 about a month later and i was hooked.
I was 4 years old when the first Mustangs appeared. I remember my parents taking me to the local Big Boy's Drive-In where I saw my first Mustangs and the hot waitress chicks with tight slacks and roller skates. (Sonics sucks by comparison!)
My dad owned my mustang since 67. And when I was a kid in the 70's and eighties it was stored at my grandfathers place in a garage for over 20 years.
As a kid I would sneak off and climb into the mustang and pretend to be driving it all the time. I couldn't get enough. if they couldn't find me my grandparents knew I was sitting in the tarp covered mustang pretending to cruise around.
By time I was in high school I couldn't take it anymore, and begged my father to drive it. So I spent the summer tearing her apart and cleaning her up to get back on the road after her 20+ year snooze.
The rest is history, but now that she is my car, I love it even more. My wife who is not a huge car nut even loves the thing to death.
And now my son who is 4 climbs in when I'm outside with him and he pretends to drive it. So I can see that it likely won't be much problem handing it down to him 30 years from now. I'd love to keep this car in the family forever.

A friend of mine has a GT500 and I've always loved the way it rode. However, the day I KNEW I wanted one was one night we were out driving it around and it had just finished raining. We pulled up to a stop light and a ricer came up and started reving. Cody (my friend) reved, dumped the clutch and burned out through first and second. The ricer just stayed at the light as it turned green as we left. *cry* I miss that car.
I know he could.. He had done it afterward... The question was the first moment though. =) The look on the dudes face was priceless though. He had no idea how that 'old piece of crap' could do something like that.
My parents had a 1969 coupe with a 302. It was wimbledon white with the black vinyl hard top and a fake hood scoop. My mother sold her 65 and used the cash to buy the 69 in 1971.
I remember riding in it when I was very young. In about 85 when I was about 10 I asked my father if it would still start. The inspection sticker had a date of 1979 so it was sitting for about 6 years by that time. We got out the battery charger and charged the battery overnight. My father gave me the key, gave it a couple of squirts of some starter spray and I turned the key. It started up on the first try and ran great.
From that point on I was hooked. I did what I could at that age to get it cleaned up. Unfortunately, 10 years of upstate NY winters and the rock salt had eaten away the rear end, the floorboard and started on just about every part of the car so I sold it when I was 18.
A few months ago I came across a red 1965 Coupe with a 289 and deluxe pony interior, The body is in good shape with a little rust around the wheel wells but everything else it in excellent shape. I'm beginning a complete restoration on it now. The first thing to do is move the seats back and install a tilt steering wheel. At 6'4" it's very hard to get into the car!
No if I could only find a 65-68 convertible!

I wanted a mustang like the one in 21 jump street. Since fastbacks were expensive when i was looking for a car, i got a coupe. I also liked them cause they're retro. Now since I own one I just love mustangs because they're mustangs.
Can't pinpoint the exact time I knew. But, it was always the Mustang, and always one of the early (65-68) ponys. Even when my stepbrother had a 69 Mach I. I never could afford one until now. For my 40th birthday, I got my 66 coupe. I still get a big grin on my face whenever I drive it. My uncle has an 04 Roush, and it doesn't compare.
