strongest 351 block?
It appears that some confusion may be in the mix. If that really is a "427 DOHC" then I strongly question if it is an FE or just a one-off type engine...now, I have heard of a 3 valve SOHC 427 prototype but not a DOHC. The 427 FE is known for it's Low, Medium, Hi-Rise, Tunnel Port, and SOHC heads. An all aluminum Tunnel Port 427was used in the GT-40s not a DOHC, SOHCs were originally intended for NASCAR but were quickly sent to the drag strip because a change in the NASCARrules.
I have heard of and read about several versions 255/289 DOHC Indy motor.
The 429 is known for it's Thunder-Jet, Police Interceptor, CJ, SCJ (basically the same as the CJ heads), and the Boss heads.
Oh yeah, there were the standard 302 heads, the 302 Tunnel Ports from '68, the '69 Boss, and the '70 Boss heads. For the 351 Cleveland there were the 2-V, 4-V, CJ, and Boss heads as well as a few variations of open and closed chamber heads with some mixed and matched ports also.
Now, back to the initial subject...World Castings and Dart make the best blocks (and I like the Man O' War block better), but be prepared to pay out some money. The cleveland is a good motor but it takes about 50-75% more money to make it run like the Windsor equivilent. My suggestion, find a good 351W block (probably one that hasn't been bored yet), and go from there. Plenty of companies make cranks, rods, pistons, heads and other partsfor the 351Wthat will meet your specific needs. A Cleveland should be used for die-hard restorers or for nostalgia, the Windsor is just easier to work on.

thanks for all the help guys, i think because i cant really afford 1700-2500 bucks for a block i'm gonna just stroke it not go with a supercharger, i talked to a friend and he says his dad has a 351 cleveland in his garage so i may buy that
also the 427 "cammer" was a single overhead cam not DOHC

And, I agree with Superhoss. The 351 W has a lot of potential, and parts are readily available to heat it up.

302 tunnel ports are crazy rare, i bet those things go for a **** load of money if you ever even find a pair

ive seen photos of the tunnel port, perfect circle ports with the guides (or pushrod holes?!?!) sticking right thru the center of the ports. btw, the boss heads were pretty worthless at low/mid rpm's but the roundy round motor we build was SCREAMING with the boss heads........ until someone pulled the pin and it grenaded

Yep, the 427 cammer was a SOHC engine. I tried to tell ZZ that.
