I just recently switched out my thermostat, flushed the system with a cleaner, and i have good passage through the entire system. It still is maxed out, any new ideas? (my engine just was rebuilt 100 miles ago, and I don't want to overheat the badgirl).

do you have a fan shroud? or an electric fan? i am having the same problem with my car i have about 400 miles on my 351w and it tends to run hot especially when im at a stop light. i had my rad rodded and a new thermostat put in and still getting hot at stop lights, yesterday i ordered a dual 12" eletric fan from flex-a-lite. it was $230. IMO a small price to pay to save a life of a new born engine
does yours run hot all the time or just when ur at idle??

Nope, no fan shroud or electric fan. My car overheats anytime, it doesn't matter if it's ideling or reved up.

I do need to upgrade my fan for sure, I think that would really help, but I don't think that is the problem. Even with the existing fan it shouldn't get so hot!

Does anybody know about the a/c condensor though? Mine is as big as my radiator and covers the entire radiator, not allowing (in my opinion) sufficient air flow to the radiator for cooling. Are they usually that big, or is mine an aftermarket one someone put on ages ago?

A fan without a shroud is only about half as effective as a fan with a shroud.... The shroud is integral tothe fansoperation...

Get a shroud first and then troubleshoot further if needed.

I think a shroud is even more important for directing air through a radiator with an A/C condenser in front of it.

And don't run your damn air con until you get the overheating prob fixed. You need a shroud, a 7 blade fan and an overflow tank. Throw some watter wetter in there too.
Geter dun.

Didn't you post earlier that the engine was recently rebuilt? Looks like your cooling system that was OK with the old engine isn't up to snuff for the new engine.

I suggest you get a large clutch fan, a shroud, and an overflow tank.

You said it yourself, "not ... sufficient air flow to the radiator for cooling". Here's how you fix that: a large clutch fan and a proper shroud.

The overflow will help keep air out of the system.

i dont have a/c in my car but a friend of mine does and i went and took a look at his condencer and his also takes up the entire front of the rad.... it does look to big but its 100% stock, so it was designed for it.

you need what they suggested, shroud, overflow tank, and a fan. i dont remember you saying anything about checking to see if your rad is cloged with rust chunks that could also be a major cause, but if your rad is clear of rust bits, the other stuff should cover it. lucas

K, you guys are awesome... I'm going to do this project this weekend (shroud, and elec fan... I've already got an overflow tank). I'm also going to replace the thermostat again, since the engine has gotten so hot.

By the way, when I'm moving, as was mentioned above by someone else, the temp guage goes down slightly, and of course when I'm stopped at a light, it climbes right back up again. This is telling me that coolant is going through the radiator, and that my thermostat is working. Isn't this right?

Also, could the temperature sending unit malfunction at all?
