T10 or toploader?
I have a 1964 T-10. It shifts good and was only broken once behind a built 390 in a 64 Galaxie. The draw backsare the weight and the length.
The newer T-10s must be pretty good because every Nextell Cup car has one in it and they lighten the gears something awful. Almost looks like a cutaway display.

Check your numbers, and if it happens to be aluminum housing. Well, hmmmm. The 65 Shelby used a aluminum close ratio "Borg Warner t-10". At the least, I dare not say its worthless. Check around. Just take a look on flea bay.

They may have started with the T10 concept, but any similarity between what is used in NASCAR and the transmission pulled from a 1966 Mustang is limited to the name. Pretty much the same thing with all the NASCAR stuff. It may be an interesting off topic challenge to identify a "stock part" on any current NASCAR "stock" car.
I forgot they had changed. The transmissions they were using 2 years ago were a T-10. They changed trans design because NASCAR made the move the seat further inward and the old shifter set up wouldn't allow it.
They use a 9" Ford rear on all the cars and it is held in with the trailing arms designed for an early 60's Chevy pickup.
You are right about not much being stock. I have a friend that works in the engine shop at Hendrix. He gave me a tour. One thing that amazed me was the pushrods look to be about 1/2" in diameter and they run over 600 lbs of spring pressure.

neither my man don't waste time with the 4 speed go 5 speed ....t-5 conversion all the way!!! it'll drop your cruise rpm's way down, no 4 speed with gears can do that.. I should know I just converted from a 4 speed to 5 speed plus with overdrive if you got a decent engine with mods you'll outrun any 4 speed car on the top end!!
