Default [Easy] Please Help with starting

Guys,

I have a 64 1/2 289 with 4 speed.

I left it sitting for a couple months and it wont start now. I tried jumping it - all the lights and radio will work but it wont turn over. I get a light clicking noise.
Also when I did this my regulator started smoking. Does this mean no power is getting to te solenoid?

All wires and everything are good.
What do you guys think I need to get this started?

Any help greatly appreciated!!!

Not sure of the age of the starter. Bought the car about a year and a half ago, so its at least that old.

Sounds like a starter and a solenoid are both due, shouldnt be more than about $30 for both and both are extremely easy installs. I'd just replace em both if I were you, though if you ask WildMustang351 he'd tell you that's my advice because I'm filthy rich.

He, however, is a butthole, and I recommend you DON'T listen to him.

I just went through a similar problem. Take your battery to your local autoparts store and have them test the cranking amps. I had a red top optima battery and I thought all was good. I was wrong. My radio/gauges were all working fine, but when I turned the key all that would happen is some clicking noises. I replaced the battery with a yellow top that I had sitting in the garage and now there is no more problem. Good luck!
