Default flexplate

Ok purchased a rebuilt 302 motor to install into my 1965 mustang, the old 302 was pretty wore out. I do not know what year engine forgot to look at stamping. question is going to by a new 157 tooth flex plate which I am assuming is going to have a weight on it, If this is a externally balanced engine, How or where do you position the placement of the flexplate in relations to the crackshaft? What are your opnions on harmonic balancers? Rebuilders say this is a heavy crank 302, good bad, indifferent? Thanks Bob

It's impossible to mount a Ford flexplate or flywheel wrong, the bolt holes will only line up one way. As long as you have the correct balance for the new engine, i.e, did you get a late model 5.0 or the earlier 302, you'll need the 28 oz type for the 302, and 50 oz for the 5.0. You really need to know what you bought.

I should of wrote the numbers all down before I toof off for work these couple weeks. I didn't remember any alignment pin, so I was hoping the flexplate had a hole or something offset a bit. Funny I can tear apart an reassemble a helicopter but car parts combinations scare me.. Thanks

Yeah, but the main rotor head is symmetrical, the six bolts on the flywheel are not.
