Stuck and need help
I am getting frustrated in finding a 69 or 70 mustang.
I look locally New England which what few here are through the roof and I check ebay and craigslist for areas I can drive to in 2 days. I see the standard sites like http://flemmingsultimategarage.com/ and http://www.streetsideclassics.com and these look okay but have the jacked up cost and they get cars that are not fully doc'd so who know what's in there.
So, I know I am not skilled to fully understand what I see if I was to see it. I know I need to pay someone to appraise it or look to speak to me what's it's worth and it's conditions.
Now, the big thing, what do I want and what do I want to do with it.
I want to drive it, enjoy it. I will pick up a cheap civic or accord to drive winter and bad weather. I do know I will decrease the value from wear but that's acceptable. I know I want a rebuilt engine/tranny and solid frame/floors.
I am looking from 20 - 30 for the price but I don't want the chunk of that to be paid to the overhead of a flemmings buy.
So, I am racking my brain ad I don't know how to find people/companies to inspect a car and I don't know the nest way to do this.
So, I'm getting frustrated and feel at this point I just can't do what I want without paying some large money to get a mint restored car through some large classic car shop.
HELP!!!!

Don't be afraid to travel to get the right car, and don't buy it without seeing it. I've seen at least a dozen ebaY cars, some were quite nice and some resulted in lawsuits. The funniest was a convertible that was sold to a lawyer, by a lawyer. It was advertised as complete, restorable. I saw the car up close. It was about as close to mulch as I've ever seen.
Finding just the right 40 year old car is difficult. They're not just lying around everywhere. It takes a lot of time - sometimes years - to find the just the right car. Especially if you can't do the build yourself. You have to keep an open mind about options like engine size and trans type. Fortunatly, you have a big budget, and that oipens up a lot of possibilities for you.
I would not buy a car from the salt belt. Ever. They generally take way too much work to get them to DD status. So start looking in places like the Carolinas, Georgia, etc. You'll need to travel to get what you want.
There are people who will (for a fee) go and check out a car for you. I'v seen them advertise on E-bay.
Once you find the car, you may or may not be able to drive it home. Facters like car condition and weather may not allow that. You can have the car shipped to you by companies like Stewert.
There are also independant haulers called "Hot Shots" who can move it for you. These are usually guys with pick ups and enclosed trailers who can haul cargo from place to place. This company has a good reputation, but they hire guys who are independants, so you have to vet them carefully. http://www.uship.com/carriers/hot-shot-freight/
If you're willing to use an open trailer, consider flying there and renting a u-haul truck and trailer.

If you don't want to travel and incur the costs of shipping and having the car appraised you can find a good car in the New England area. One that was either not driven when the salt was flying or one that was brought in from a drier climate. That's the thing about cars... They have wheels so they're mobile.
Be patient. You've got another two months before the roads are clear anyway. Contact the Mustang Car Club of New England. They'll know of available cars or upcoming shows. (Spring is coming.) Another possibility is the May 15th show at Mustangs Unlimited down in Manchester Connecticut. It's not far off the highway and easy to find.
With your budget you will be able to fine a nice, clean, well optioned Mustang. I'm in Western Massachusetts and would be willing to check out anything you find locally.
As 2+2 says do NOT buy anything sight unseen. It's a quick way to waste a lot of money on a rat. Photos can be deceiving and people lie.
Good luck.
