Default a question that i cant figure out

Ive owned my 68 mustang with a 302 for over 12 years now, and for the past 12 years i cant find a good way to tighten my powersteering belt. Yea you can wedge a bar between the housing and the bracket to pull it tight.. (but thats if you want a dented pump housing.) what is the best way to do this without denting the crap out the housing? pictures would be great! thanks guys!

there should be a square hole in the bracket that you can put a 1/2 inch breaker bar in and pull it tight

Have you ever thought you might be bottoming out on your bracket, and that's why you can't get it tight? Even pushing on your pump by hand and locking it down should be sufficient for a tight belt. Just my two cents....

A method to do this (By the way dustin GOOD JOB NOT DENTING THE CAN!) is to use a some large channel locks, or a good sized adjutable wrench.

Insert it inbetween the pulley, and can. The front pump housing has a piece of ledge cast in the front nose. This ridge, lip, whatever, will provide a good leverage for the tool to bit again when you lift to adjust. You might have to insert from bottom to get wrench to fit. It won't hurt the pump--Unless you overtighten.

The adjustment is staring us in the face. The projection on the front of the bracket is how. Wedge a small prybar or large screwdriver between the bearing boss on the pump, and the projection on the bracket, and push the bar toward the right side of the car.

that worked great... all this time I've been using a crow bar and beating my self up. used a thick screw driver with the handle towards the fender aprons & from the bottom of that point on the bracket, then the end of the screw driver off the center shaft where the pulley is. Cant believe i didn't ever see that. Whats funny is when i posted that pic up i said hmmmm. "what is that piece on the bracket that sticks out?" Never even noticed it in the car. thanks fellas, guess you learn something new everyday.
