Default FOR ALL YOU TRANNY HEADS!!!!

i have a 90 mustang gt and my tranny shifts like ****!
its a ford aod auto. it takes off strong, but after it shifts it goes strait into o/d
and fall on its face....somtimes it seems i dont have a kick down cable
at all,and the warmer the tranny gets the rougher it shifts and down shifts
someone said i may need my cable adjusted or somthing for my kick down, but
what about after it does kick down it goes strait back into o/d?
will a shift kit make my tranny hold gears longer?

It could be a problem with the TV cable. That is what you would want to have adjusted. The AOD tranny never holds 2nd anyway... not without doing the 1-D-1 shuffle. But it should hold for a few before shifting into OD.

How does the fluid look? If it's bad, it may be beneficial to have ht flushed as well. Not that it will cure your problems, but old dirty fluid can cause other problems.

A shift kit will help. If you spend a little more and get a shift kit with an electronic OD delete, you won't be disappointed. You can manually hold gears as long as you want and shift 1-2-3 just like an AODE. Of go one step further and get a full manual valve body... which is basically a clutchless standard. it wil only shift when you want it to shift.

But to get back to your problem.. make sure the fluid is at the right level and clean. Make adjustments to teh TV cable if necessary. And if it's only happening on warmer days, then it may be a good idea to go out and buy a tranny cooler. They're about $40 and are a breeze to install.

Check the TV cable first, but you may be having clutch/valve body issues. Changing the fluid/filter and possibly adding an external filter and cooler may be a good idea. If it isn't the TV cable, start saving for a rebuild.
