05 mustang gt clutch issue
Thanks in advance for your input. When I had my motor rebuilt i had my shop put in one of there "custom" kevlar clutches. It was supposed to be rated to 800 hp. It lasted for 2 trips to the drag strip and it went.
So, the shop swapped it out for a metallic clutch that was supposed to be stronger. Couldn't make one pass on the clutch. Pulled through first and when i would go to second it wouldn't hook up. Tried it again and it held through second and same thing, would hook up in 3rd.
So the owner offered to swap it out for a mcleod twin disc which is what i should have gone with from the beginning. Take it down to the shop and go for a ride with the mechanic to try and replicate it. Luckily it does it with him in the car. This is on Friday. So on Tuesday the shop manager calls me and tells me they took it for a drive and they couldn't get it to slip and asks if i can come down again and see if i can get it to slip. Go down and nothing no slippage.
Now I am friends with the owner and i don't want him to waste money on a new clutch so i tell them i'll give it another shot at the strip. Sure enough can't make a pass.
Now i just want to know if it could be anything but the clutch. It holds fine on the street. I have beaten the crap out of it on the street and it holds up fine. What i'm thinking is it has the stock pressure plate and it doesn't have enough pressure to engage at the strip when i hook up. A 1.6x 60' can't be replicated on the street so i think that is what is making the difference. It's a puck clutch btw.
Could it be anything else, maybe the rear differential. I don't want to put in the new Mcleod and have it happen again.
Here's the video of the first clutch going out: http://s290.photobucket.com/albums/l...5-26191425.flv
