A noob with problems
Dear Mustang gods,
I recently bought my first classic car, a 1966 Mustang 6 cylinder, automatic.
I guess you guys are pretty sick of guys like me who don't know anything about oldtimers and ask the dummest questions, but hey, I'm from Holland there not a lot of people here that I know who can help me out about American muscle.
So the car I've bought is a '66 basic model. The guy I've bought it from restored it on it's own but stalled it in his garage for 4 years. I took the car and brought it directly to a oldtimer shop and gave it's first service since 2015.
The car is now running really smooth, no noise, no shaking, just nice.
I just have hard time starting it because I'm not used to it. After it came back from the shop, it wouldn't cold start at all. So pumping 3 times and turning the key just didn't do the trick. Repeating the same action 10 times and it still wouldn't start. It went even so far that the minus cable head broke of the battery of the heat. After replacing that I only could start it if I sprayed something flameble into the carburetor (thought to me by my neighbour).
So I brought back to the garage and had the carburetor checked out and after some fiddling with the air intake it is now fixed (according to the mechanic)
After 3 days of sitting I started the car again but only after 5 times doing the 3x pump and key action it started. I drove around for an hour, turned the car off and when I tried to start the car it wouldn't start directly like it used to when turning it off for a moment, I had to give gas a bit. But then it did start and I could drive home.
Now you have read all this not really import information about my lack of knowledge and the type of car I've bought, time for my questions. Be ready for questions of level 101
- The oil pressure gauge is between the middle and high. I don't remember it being this high before I brought it to the garage. Could this be a problem?
- The temprature gauge is always on low. It does work (kind of) because when the car is off it goes back to 0 but when starting the car it goes all the way to the middle, then it slowly goes back to just above 'low'. Even after hours of driving it stays there. Is this normal?
- And now the question I'm really embarrassed about: in what setting is the heater off? Because I get the feeling that it is always on warm and my feet sweat. The vent is turned off but there always a bit of heat down there. Or is that the heat of the engine?
Thank you in advance for the replies and please don't be too hard on me
