RE: question about best intake for mpg

Hey guys, I'm new here. I just bought an '05 GT Convertible with 6,000 miles. It has the automatic. I don't drive a lot, but when I do it is mostly highway miles. My car has the Ford Racing shorty headers and Ford Racing exhaust system (M-523005-GT). I want to put a CAI on it, with the hopes of improving both the gas mileage and performance. It runs great as is, and sounds awesome but if I can just get a couple more miles-per-gallon I'd be pretty happy.
Any suggestions on which CAI will work well with my exhaust? Also, any idea how much the horsepower has increased over factory with this exhaust installed?
Thanks a lot fellas.

Most on here and even the tuners say there is a slight MPG increase with a tune and CAI. I personally didnt see it with my car. Highway MPG stayed the same. If your worried about gas mileage, I vote that you keep your tune and intake stock.

RE: question about best intake for mpg
Thank you very much guys! Blue Meanie, that is exactly the kind of info I was looking for, and was wondering about the underdrive pulleys also.
Just got back from the first road trip, it got 24.6 mpg, running about 71mph. Very impressive, I think for a car with this much power. I absolutely love these cars. I was a little hesitant to get the automatic, but the car only has 6,000 miles and for all purposes is brand new. Plus my wife is much more comfortable with an auto. I gotta admit, I think the auto does pretty well as is, but doing some research on a flash tune and can't wait to do that.
Thanks again, guys, good site for information.

If you want better mileage, the best modification is to your right foot. Lighten up a bit and make ample use of cruise control. Having the auto won't help any, but keep your foot off the gas.
My father, who is blessed with some sort of black magic of efficiency said he got around 31mpg when he borrowed my 'Stang.

RE: question about best intake for mpg
I think Bamachips makes a mileage tune and I'm pretty sure that their torque tune would help. I've noticed that I get almost 1 mpg better using Brenspeed's 93 octane tune than their 87 octane. I just switched back to 87 2 weeks ago. My car has always felt more responsive in daily driving with the 87 tune. 93 octane feels like it pulls harder at high rpms. So paying the extra 30 cents a gallon doesn't make sense right now.

RE: question about best intake for mpg
I did notice an increase in mpg when I did my mods. I get around 27 with my setup listed below on the highway. Of course, that is also dependent on my right foot not being too heavy.
