i am definitely going to do this as well. i just bought a used 06 and since ive gotten it, it always revs by itself while idling. looks like this may be the fix.

however, when the needle isnt jumping around, it idles at exactly 500 rpm. could that also be from a dirty tb? 500 seems pretty low for a normal idle

My car ran fine with my foot on the gas and while cruising. As soon as it hit neutral it would idle low, hunt, and stall. It would crank right back up like nothing happened and be fine until the idle settled, then repeat. I took the TB completely off to clean it. I sprayed A LOT of TB cleaner in there and wiped it with a lint free pretty deliberately multiple times, especially around the butterflies. I also cleaned what I could reach around the manifold using the same method. Used a torque wrench to reinstall the TB but it probably wasn't completely necessary as it felt like the screws were about hand tight when torqued to spec. Car is running like a champ.

You do not need to remove it. I've done it both ways and found removing it was a waste of time. Clean lint free rag, TB cleaner, and a flat head screw driver (to remove intake tube) will do the trick. 5-10 mins tops.

I installed a JLT Oil Separator last month. Hopefully my TB cleanings will be a lot less frequent.
