while driving going and into 3rd gear the shifter feels like its super loose like the linkage is broken or something came off ? maybe a bolt broke from the shifter as now i am in third gear , the car will move in third but will not go into any other gears.

It may be something internal rather than the shifter.

might check the linkage. My old Sonic had two cables and one would pop out of its holder and I'd be stuck in one gear. The shifter would only move forward and back... Might be under the console going to the firewall....

Another poster had a similar problem and it turned out to be the nuts holding the shifter to the body had come off and it was super loose. If that is not the problem you may have a shifter fork broken inside the transmission.
