TPMS = Tire Pressure Monitoring System

The bands in the stock rims are NOT reusable so to transfer the sensors you need to buy a band kit per tire. AmericanMuscle sells them for about $18/kit. They include the band, bracket and bracket adhesive. Whoever mounts your tires to your new wheels will need to install the new bands and brackets and then swap the sensors. My local Ford dealership broke down my old tires, removed the sensors, installed the band kits and old sensors on my new wheels, mounted my new tires, balanced them and recalibrated the sensors for about $40.

NO, the workshop manual warns against this.

TPMS involves the SJB and replacing/programming/reprogramming it, so it would be neither a simple nor a cheap matter to update an '05/'06 to add it.

If I had an '06 I would NOT be inclined to add it, and I'd really like to lose it from my '08. It's already "falsed" on me once for driving through a puddle deep enough to wet the wheel, and I refuse to spend one to two tires worth more $ just to keep this system I did not ask for or ever need before (in 44 years of driving) happy when I eventually upgrade to a separate set of wheels & summer tires.

You can buy both the sensors and bands on ebay.

I am getting a new set of wheels over the winter but I am keeping my stock wheels so I will just install a set of new sensors on the new wheels and then I'm all set.

In my 08 with aftermarket rims without TPMS and the basic dash there is an orange icon that looks like a cross section of a tire with an exclamation mark in it. This is a little annoying , especially as in Canada the system is not required, but I can live with it as buying the parts required for two sets of rims was a ridiculous price.

So this would happen to all 07+ mustangs who purchase new aftermarket rims? Seems like a pain.

Yes. You either factor in the cost to swap the sensors or you deal with having to reset the indicator.

I don't think that resetting the IUP display turns off the warning lamp.

Be sure they are the same color and type as there are few different
part #s out there. They are designated by color. Blue for Mustangs.
