All six speed (M6) cars come with 3.42's. Auto's (A4) cars come with 2.73's or 3.23's. You can find out what you have by looking on your door panel. GU2 is 2.73 and GU5 is 3.23 I believe. It may be the opposite way, but it's easy to find out.

INcorrect, A4 Vette's come with 3.15's instead of 3.23's as an optional gear, but again, they are lighter.

The C5's had an option for the consumer to get 3.15's. but I believe 2.73's were standard.
Beginning in 2006 automatic Corvettes have the 2.56

I was not aware that the auto C5 Vette had a steeper option than 2.73, like the 3.23 option for the F-bodies. You learn something new every day.
And 2.56 for the C6? I couldn't imagine having anything shallower than 2.73. From a stop it feels like I'm driving underwater. Then again I don't have an LS2.

That 2.56 gear is cuppled to a 6 speed auto tranny that gives the performance feel of having an A4 with 3.90's

I've heard good things about that 6-speed auto. GM is pretty good at combining MPG with performance.

Well since the Corvette is'nt really designed for drag races I can see why GM installed a shallow gear. The A6 has a lower first gear ratio than the Z51M6 so its not all that bad.
GM's Camaros was the niche in the drag racing dept. .

The ZO6 is the champ in that department. 25mpg on a 505hp motor.
