Help me please :)
thats true about the insurance being cheap for a corvette, when I got my z28 they told me it would be $40 less a month to insure a Corvette of the same year, because the statistics show that they are less likely to get in an accident
The reason his insurance is so high is because he is a 19 year old guy in a Mach 1...
Steel - remeber while Blue pays 2200 per 6 months for his old 41 year old behind
... that's not what you're going to pay. Even though your Dad has a good drivingrecord it's still going to be higher because of you being on the insurance.. now if it was just your dad - then that's a different story, but it's not - it's you also, which will raise the premium.
Think about it $2200 for a 41 year old male is a lot of money - considering my moms bf (48) paid 900 a year for a Roush 440A Mustang (and the insurance company had it as a Roush - not a GT)..
The reason why SRT4's are so high to insure are because dumb people drive them... They see more accidents then a lot of cars... a lot of deathers because people think they're geniuses and do 140mph and crash... a lot more tickets then other cars because they do stand out...
The SRT4s are good little cars, but in the end you won't save money. if you do, it won't be much for you to see a difference....
wanna save some money? Sell your mach 1 and buy a 93' Fox, or a 96' GT...

You guys need to switch insurance companies bad! My Mach costs me $479 every 6 months for full coverage. The MazdaSpeed3 I just picked up costs almost the exact same amount (within pennies!). I am 29 with a clean record and go thru USAA.
So Steele, don't expect much insurance saving if you go with a FI car. Like BB said, if you stay out of the boost, you should get great mileage. About the Mach, I never got anywhere near the claimed 17mpg city. It was more like 10mpg on the city. My MS3 is getting about 18mpg city and the SI is +20mpg city. I would give the SI a chance if I were you, it has alot to offer. In fact, if I had to jump in the turbo car or the SI right now and drive across the country, I'd have to take the SI. Its so damn comfy and smooth, not to mention "not slow", especially for a sedan. Insurance is $100 cheaper every 6 months than the Mach or the MS3. Think it through man, drive several cars, even the ones you have doubts about, and do what makes you happy. Personally, I'm loving the gas savings. BTW, I think you could trade straight across for a low-low mileage SRT-4 since your Mach is paid off. Most of the SRT-4s around here are going for $14-18k and are already modded, which will save you money alone, just ask Cacimar...that lucky bastard![8D]

Have you thought at looking @ used STIs / Evos? I'd jump for the SRT4, or the new turbo SS Cobalt...
^ agree. SRT4 rates would have gone up now- why? because dumbass 16-25 year olds buy them, get tickets, wreck, etc. that makes rates go up. and since your paying 3k a year on a mach, Im going to guess your record isnt clean either(or you live in a ****ty state).
want to be a grown up? buy a civic and then promise not to bitch how you lost money on the trade- your almost never going to get a straight trade from one car to another

Stone: That's exactly what I was thinking. I am gonna get quotes on all of the cars. Test drive them all this week (if I can with my time off of work) and see whatI come up with. I already knew I could either do a sell and buy with the mach or trade and pay nothing for an SRT-4, Cobalt SS, or SI. The thing is with the SI, I know it's compared to it's competitors so I would have to drop a good amount of money to get it where I want. But as you said, the SRT-4's and Cobalt SS's everywhere I look I can get a low mileage one that's a stage 1 or stage 2 very cheap (I may even be able to make money on the switch from the mach)and those stage cars are easily 13sec cars which is more than enough power I would need/want. The mpg I have seen would be anoticable amount less than cobalt ss or si in the city or highway. Reading reviews, I've seen a handful or morecobalt SS/SCand SI driver's get 37MPG/HW andcan get 28MPGcity which I know an SRT-4 can't touch (bestI read was 22/31 which is a noticable amount over the mach, but not the very drastic change an SI or SS would have).Looking at it this way, I may have to say to myself, if I can live without a little less performance and get a lot better mpg,Iam gonna lean towards the cobalt SS (not the si due to the money needed to spend to get theaccelerationIwant and the warranty is out the window than too which Iwould like tohave).

Man, I thought the Machs would get better MPG than that. I get 14 city in the SRT8, and 20 highway staying out of it. Hell, even the Denali gets better MPG city than that (but not by much, 12mpg).

Gonna look at the Supercharged cobalt, as stated in my last post why. STI's and Evo's I are about as bad mileage as I have now, not to mention insurance rates.
As it's looking now, I think the cobalt SS is the way to go. But if insurance prices are gonna be high like the SRT-4 which I don't doubt you guys on about the SRT-4, it's gonna be a hard to decide to what to do.
