Help me please :)
Stone: No doubt. I really want the SRT-4, but I need to get insurance quotes, check for warranties, and run numbers. I have seen Cobalt SS's at the exact price range of srt-4's similarly modded with similar mileage. The only problemI'm sure I'm going to have is, should I get the car I want and lose a couple/few hundread a yearoninsurance(probably) and a couple hundread a year ongas just so I drive a car that I prefer and isa little faster than the other one. I don't know.I'll get quotes, take test drives, run numbers, and read up more to see what I should do. Thanks for the help.
I can't wait for you to get the sticker shock... You realize on trade you're only going to get about 13 for your mach, right? With gas prices the way they are - dealers aren't taking any chances with these cars...
Do you owe your Mach 1 outright? Or is there a loan on it?
You know everytime i fill my car up, I check the mpg i get, and I get 19-21 consistantly with a mixture of city/hwy driving..
Do you realize how much money I save for 4 bucks p/g on 2mpg? I fill up around 4-5 times a month... in an avg month (4.5 fill ups) I would save: about 28 bucks a month, orless then a dollar a day... I don't know about these guys, and taking NOTHING away from thesrt4, but i'd pay around90 cents a dayextra to drive my Mach, over the SRT4...I mean I **** that away at the vending machines at work, haha... and gas will go back down, which means it'll cut around 50%...

Remember=My mach is paid off, has 3k miles, and can be returned to stock in a couple of days. Not everyone cares about gas prices and I guarantee you the person who buys my car is either 1-a collector looking for a low mileage mach 1 or 2-someone who wants a good looking/fast weekend car. I can almost guarantee the person who is buying the car isn't gonna use it for a dd.And if the trade in value isn't worth it, I will just sell it on cars.com or something. I have seen mach's with this mileage sell in the past few months for $21k-$22k fairly easy and quickly. That is enough for a cobalt ss or srt-4, the taxes on the car, and the registration and rest of stuff needed.
And the gas isn't 2mpg difference. The srt-4 if I can keep my foot out of it which I can will get about 4mpg better than the mach 1 and a cobalt ss I have read will get about 8-10mpg better than the mach 1 which is an even greater difference. It all adds up, in the long run it equates to a big difference. I don't know about gasgoing down.Listening to educated people in thegasdepartment, they expect it to stop rising atsome point and taper off athopefully $5/gallon and then do the usualdown in the fall-up in the winter-down in the spring-up in the summer cycle.
I would say about ~32MPG. Asfar as room it has a lot more than my GT did, I can fit a car seat in the back no problem.Insurance wise my 07 SS/SC cost $26 less a month than my 01 GT did.Price..Mine is an 07 so the blue book is still over 21K but I bought it for $18,400 so a 05-07 would be cheaper.
Oh yeah an Ion Redline would be even cheaper, has the same engine as the SS/SC and suicide doors so it has extra room.

You do know there is a new 08 SS/TC right?

If I was you I would seriously look into the 08 SS/TC if you decide not to go with an SRT-4

I got $14.5k for my Mach with 50k miles on it, with the mods in my sig (which reduce trade in). You should be able to get much more than that for yours considering your lower miles, etc.
Haha, just keep in mind a stock SS/SC is rather slow ~mid 14 under rated 205hp, most dyno ~211 but once you get staged it's a completly diff car. They can rev pretty high too .. My red line is 7k.
The way you speak about the gas milage you're getting doesn't make sense.. you drive 10k a year, but fill up twice a week? 10k miles per year = 833 per month, which = 193 a week, or 28 miles per day. If you fill up twice a week, you're either driving 26k miles a year, or getting around 13mpg... if your gas milage is that low theres something wrong with your car, or you mash the hell out of your gas pedal. For the record, I drive around 1,000 miles a month...
based on the EPA tests the car gets 22/31 you said, which means you'll get around 18-19mpg city... and high 20's on the highway.. which is basically when i've gotten in my mach 1, which is always nice.. within 2-3mpg, which as i've already proved doesn't show much of a difference in true dollars.
The only way I consider this trade is if I am saving more then $1,000 a year in insurance, and that's only me considering it... $1,000 a year is $83 per month, or $2.69 a day. Which isn't enough money to convince me to give up a car that I know like the back of my hand, for a car that could've been abused pretty harshly.
As far as gas prices are concerned... as im in the financial and banking industry depending on who you listen to it's a different story, but what goes up must come down; i.e., the housing market.
You're up one by having your car paid off in full... however, Mach 1's really aren't getting much these days because of gas prices... A lot of people are asking high teens/low 20's but they're not selling.. before gas prices went this high, I got my bone stock25k mile mach 1 for 15k at a DEALER!
In my opinion unless you're cutting your insurance by at least half I don't make this trade... It's a stupid trade imo... you're basically taking a car that is more valuable and trading it for a cheap car (no offense to the srt guys - they are what they are)... and thinking you're going to save money in the long run... You'll end up saving probably less then $100 bucks per month..

There is nothing wrong with his car, I wish I got 16mpg city with my Mach. I pulled off a whopping 165-220 miles per tank, depending on how much interstate driving I could squeeze in.
gears maybe? I get in a healthy 240-260 per tank of gas...
I mean dang, I got in 180-210miles per tank with my 500+rwhp Cobra...
edit: i will say gas prices are the reason my 4.30s are sitting in my closet
