I think you are fooling yourself.
There isnt much more to a 3v over a 2v except...gasp....another valve per cylinder. and VVT, and a slightly steeper gear.
Thats it.
The bottom end is basically identical, etc.
You guys have a 3link that id prefer over the 4....but the 4 still works fine.
Bottom line is there is nothing on the 3v thats worth the extra 10k it would cost me to be in one.
I could get a base model C5 vette or even some higher mileage Cobras for 3v bank.
Id take a 100,000 mile 03-04 Cobra or C5 FRC/z06 over a 10,000 mile 3v ANY day of the week.

Yes.
Im not sure where everone gets the idea that the 3v 4.6 is such a godsend. It certainly has nothing on the 4v and barely anything on the 2v. Its another run of the mill modular motor that falls right in between the 2v and 4v...who would have thought?

As far as 3Vs not running much faster than 3V; BS. It's like comparing the LT1 to the LS1; same displacement, but hardly the same engine. The only advantage a new edge has is the fact that it is a little lighter. The S197 is a whole new world of Mustang; compared to the new edge or any previous model. If you don't believe me, go drive one. I'm had plenty of Stangs and my sig says it all; I'm a fan-boy. The S197 offers A LOT more than just more power; and brand new, it costs almost exactly what a new edge did.
S197=a LOT more Stang for the money.
I say the above, and I'm old-school. Nothing lights my fire like the torque and the throttle response of a solid-built pushrod OHV engine. But, c'mon, now.....How many 3V & 4V engine owners do you see doing engine swaps for engines with less valves? Not too many; I'd bet.
I don't think it has anything to do with what people can/cannot afford. I think it has more to do with people defending what they own due to a self-created psycological barrier that disallows people from using their common sense. You can get a new edge rolling chassis for dirt cheap and I've seen entire V8 drivetrains off of S197s on eBay for $3k.

back when I had my 2V I was really pissed at the 3V crew because of how easily they respond to mods... I got espessially heated when the CAI+ tune guys were breaking 12's
I think bologna is going through this
don't know if anyone answered this for you, but the reason is because of the position in the muffler... the 3V's exhaust gets a cherrybomb effect because of how close the mufflers are to the tips and are just very loud and poppy compared to the smooth drone of the 2V

^^^ 3V exhaust

^^^ 2V exhaust
^^^ right on the money, couldn't have said it better myself

I believe half what i see, a fourth of what i hear and almost nothing i see on the internet.
Again, just because a few 3v guys cut a 12 glory pass with a can tune and CAI doesnt mean they all do that.
On the norm they dont run any faster. Blame it on driver, blame it on whatever...they just dont.
The 3v is of course superior to the 2v....denying that would be denying common sense.
It just wasnt that drastic of a jump. Its not the gap that the 99 PI was over the 96-98 NPI.
the performance of the S197 GT compared to the performance of the new edge GT and how they both respond to mods is night and day, it's time you made peace with this
just a tune alone nets the 3V 20 RWHP
Also with the tune, the throttle response is unbelievable. Night and day difference.
and?
im sure a dyno tune could get 15-16 out of a 2v.
Quite a few people get a good 10whp out of the freakin diablosport canned tune.
If you think 3v is to 2v as LS1 is to LT1 you are sadly mistaken.
The LS1 is vastly superior to the LT1, such is not the case with the 3v.
It IS superior...but it wasnt as big a jump as it should have been.
The 2010 mustang is supposed to have a 4.6l w/ 400hp. Now thats a jump
