the performance of the S197 GT compared to the performance of the new edge GT and how they both respond to mods is night and day, it's time you made peace with this
I made the switch from a '99 GT 5-speed to an '05 GT 5-speed. My '99 was stock other than a performance chip. I noticed the trottle lag of the '05 right away and searched for solutions. Added a CAI and SCT tune, as well as 4.10 gears. AFTER those two mods, I can safely say that the '05 out performs the '99 hands down.

For the OP, STI and WRX cars in general hit a brick wall at around 80-90 MPH and boost. Unless they are modded they are fully boosted at that point and will get reeled in. Most of the time though people shut down like they did either because of traffic or because the Subbie driver knows this and doesn't want to look like a chump.
I currently own a '04 Subaru with the turbo. It is rated at 210 horsepower, and has VERY GOOD throttle response for a 4cyl. The turbo kicks in quickly, but I do agree, it has very little umph left after crusing speed on the highway.

My 2 cents.

If you think 3v is to 2v as LS1 is to LT1 you are sadly mistaken.

The LS1 is vastly superior to the LT1, such is not the case with the 3v.

It IS superior...but it wasnt as big a jump as it should have been.
since you still want to act oblivious I'll lay down some proven numbers for you

this is a 3V on the drums after just a dyno tune...
284 RWHP @ 309lbs tq

now I've seen a 2V put down 289WHP @ 306lbs tq... this is all it had done
- CAI/dyno tune
- LT headers
- X pipe
- catback
- UD pulley
- 75mm TB/plenum
- custom ground cams

so yeah, I'd say it is far superior considering it's making the same power as a full bolt on cammed 2V after just playing with the tune

swallow your pride and get over yourself, even the GM guys give props to the 3V's considering how they are keeping up compared to the 2V's... the only one who doesn't seem to see the difference is you

The 2010 mustang is supposed to have a 4.6l w/ 400hp. Now thats a jump
To each their own, I guess. Obviously, the comparison between LT1/LS1 as opposed to 2V/3V is not exact, but it is the principle of it. From LT1 to LS1, there was a bump of what; 25-30hp? How much of a bump was there in hp from the 2V to 3V? More than that, I believe.

What you're saying is that the only bump in power worth mentioning is 100hp+? The S197 handles, brakes, and outperforms the new edge in every way. Not just power and performance wise, but ergonomics, interior quality, comfort, space, options, features, you name it.

Not to mention, an aluminum block and heads from Ford? I'll take an S197, please.

Did the new edges bring aluminum blocks? (I'm really asking; I don't know)

new edges are iron block, but you can get aluminum 2v longblocks for pretty cheap if you so desire.

I never said the 3v wasnt superior. It would be quite dumb of Ford not to improve the output of the motor when changing generations.

Its just not an improvement worth the extra 7-10k it costs to purchase an S197 over a new edge.

...

The hp difference between an LT1 97 Z28 and an LS1 Z28 is a lot more than just, what, 25 to, what, huh, eH, 30 hp....

WOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Googled a 1997 SS's power ratings and its said to be 320hp.

you are a tool, the 3V is superior to the 2V the same way the PI 2v is superior to the non PI and also the same way a LS1 is superior to an LT1

for you to even bring up other applications as a benchmark just shows you are grasping at straws

the only difference is the 2V can't respond to mods worth dick... the LT1 can, so the perfomance margin is greater than the LT1/LS1 difference

you bought a 2V mod motor and you need some kind of FI to get decent numbers to the ground, deal with it

My previous car was a 03 GT. My 06 gt stock was very sluggish due to electronic throttle. Once you put a intake and tune it for 91 octane the thing becomes a beast. Car for CAr the 03gt is not made as well as the new ones. The 03 just felt like crap, expecially the tranny and interior. No matter what I did the car couldnt really handle the twisties. The 03 for some reason did feel like it had more torque off first gear but that may have to due with the throttle. The 06 is just a better built car all around and I get "thumbs up" all the time in my s197. Never got one in my 03.

Dont get me wrong i love the termis. That is probably my favorite looking mustang of all time.

Either way from what i have experienced, comparing stock for stock the s197 is just a better built car all around. Trust me newer is always better.

And please check your pricing. the 04 Termi listed at $34-$35 from my research. A new 08 GT can be had for $28-$30K. So hardly equal.

Sorry to the OP for the thread jack!
I'd agree on all of those points. With the exception of the looks. The new edge looks way better than the S197's.

A new edge Cobra with some 315's on the back, and lowered...Thats a good looking car.
