Trans took a dump, basically anyway. The re-tune fixed it for about a week, but then last night it nailed the rev limiter bad, like 7 times in one gear change. Then today on the way home from work I said *** it and nailed it. This time it didn't touch the rev limiter, instead it flat out slipped for about 4 seconds. I held it just to see (and because I almost want it to just die at this point so I can move on to a new/better/stalled trans), and it only shifted when I let off.

So, called my tuner guy, asked a bunch of questions about this and that. He told me it was time to stop putting lipstick on the pig and get a new trans, recommended RPM. Alright, then I popped the extended warranty question on him. He sighed, but then said, "Tell ya what, Trey. I've known you for a long time and know you'll step up if need be, so lets see what we can get them to pay for!) Got home, called my warranty people and they said no problem, just have your guy call us with the contract number and his business ID, and we will authorize him to replace your trans!

Long story short, there should be a built/stalled RPM trans in my car in the next couple/few weeks. Going to cost me the $300 deductible and possibly the stall costs, but damn who cares.

Greddy, don't kill me man, but you see where this is going, lol.

New trans for $300? Awesome! Was your old trans stock? How do you still have a warranty?

Stock trans, only took 16k miles to do it in, only 6k of those miles non-stock. I bought an aftermarket warranty when I picked up the car....kind of saw certain issues in my future so figured it would end up being cheaper in the long run. Cost me a grand for the warranty, but I knew the trans would go soon. Just waiting on the A/C to quit...window motor already has

GM built a hell of an engine when they developed the LS1, but they dropped the ball big time regarding everything behind the crank, lol. I take it pretty easy on the old car believe it or not. Never make more than 3-6 passes a month. Drive her easy round town, etc..

Glad you got that warranty!!! I lost my trans shortly after I bought my old car. Vowed I would never own another auto. Lol. Looks like you dodged a bullet... My trans rebuild was 2300 plus the stall!

A guy that is going to the track with me this weekend has a LS1 Camaro with a modded automatic, cam, exhaust, and a 9" rear end.... on a 150 shot the car runs 6.60s (1/8th). GM DEFINATELY got it right with the LS1, so like you said, just improve on the rest of it and your car will haul the mail!!

I swore the same thing with my last Camaro too. RPM's level IV trans (weakest one/500RWHP) is $2k. You stalls are all over the place in price, but I'm really wanting a good one like yank, Vigilante, etc. Yank has a couple good ones in the $475-575 range. Revmax makes some decent cheap verters for $300. They hold up fine, just not as efficient from what I understand.

Man, 6.6 is moving on out. I'd love to see that car run. Maybe you can grab some vid of it If I can even knock a half second off my time with the stall and run a 7.3 I'd be more than happy. I guess after this, the rear will be the only weak point, but I'm not really planning on pulling any 1.5 60s or anything.

yeah brake stalling so far resulted in worse 60's in both my mustangs so far. Track opens early this year (new owners) on april 14th and 15th, i really hope we have some good weather and they have everything squared away so I can run. might be the first time i get below 4000' DA

I'm really surprised at how fast that is with just a few bolt-ons. I guess that's how LS1's got their reputation...

Exactly.. the problem is they got dirt cheap and we got used to see people like me modding them up and running bad times. Back in the day (98~99) I remember seeing lid / catback only cars cracking 12s all day long, drag radial cars nailing the mid 12s, etc... now if you see an f-body at the track its either built and should be fast or it has a ton of mods and isn't likely to run any better than a 13.

Honestly I'm happy to see the new 5.0 cars putting up the numbers they have been with very little mods... that has been missing from the car scene for a long time IMHO.

I swapped 3.73s into my 01 and it made no difference in my et. Maybe driver error, glad it worked for you.
