Okay... i got more info on the difference (from what i understand).

The Xcal2 that most you guys have is the 9400 model. The Strategy is the 9415 model. The 9415 model is, as you said, limited but good if you don't have performance mods.
The catch is, you can turn the 9415 into the 9400 by reformatting the unit and thus clearing the memory and making space for the custom tunes.

I got this info off the SCTFlash fourms. The admins over there state it in many threads and here is a snippet.

http://www.sctflash.com/forum/showth...highlight=9400
"The only reason to convert a 9415 to a 9400 is if you have made changes to your vehicle that is beyond the limits of the tunes in the 9415. If that is true, you will need the .ll3 file or an .xtr file (extreme tune). Without one of these files, your tuner would be blank. The end user options are only available with the .ll3 and are the responsibility of the dealer you get them from to set up.
Note: Once you convert to a 9400, you will not be able to go back to the 9415."

Pretty interesting huh?

It sounds inferior to the XCAL II. Why would anyone buy it in the first place, it costs the same as the XCAL II also.

It's the exact same piece of hardware w/ different software in it.
It seems to me that someone would buy it they didn't have any performance mods, then they would use one of the four canned tunes preinstalled in it.

then if they wanted to custom tune or get a tune from some sct dealer... then they could literally turn the device into the Xcal2 that you guys all know.

On the box it says X calibrator 2... inside the box (on the device) it reads Strategy.

So.. inferior? doesn't sound like it. If you buy it and don't like it... just turn it into the older Xcal2.

I could have it mixed up, but i don't think so.
