not to thread jack or anything but i until this thread I was under the impression that all car mufflers looked something like this on the inside

is it common for OEM mufflers to have this sound deadening material in there? I’m assuming his muffler looks something like this on the inside.

Not all mufflers are the same.
That being said... it is common for sound deadening material to be placed in
there.

As far as OEM mufflers... I have no idea.
Go to fordparts.com and lookup the information on the muffler you have.
It may tell you.

What brand muffs do you have? Fiberglass (hence the name "glasspack") was/is a common sound-deadening material in some brands. If the baffels fail, then you'll get some if not all of the "pieces" being blown around with only one direction they try to go; out.

It won't hurt anything to run that way but if one muff failed and the other is intact, you're back pressure will be unequal. I doubt that it'll hurt anything but its not ideal.

I have dynomax dual exhaust and I almost got most of the glass pack out. But like Nuke said I am worried now that the pressure will be unequal.

But on a good note the car does sound a lot throatier. I am also putting in JBA shorty headers tomorrow so it will sound like a beast after that.

But I am going to need to get new mufflers so can anyone recommend a good muffler for a dual exhaust 2006 v6? I was looking at the SLP loudmouth but I think I am going to have to get the GT mufflers (because they come in a pair) or just buy two v6 mufflers.

Heck, just try to destroy the other muff and yank the packing out. Why change axlebacks if they sound good?

^ Good point ill probably just do that. It will sound great and equalize the pressure.

Perhaps I should rephrase that... "Just try to MODIFY the other muff..."
