The issue here seems to be about pulling up top on a pretty fast highway roll. The 5.0 is made for getting away pretty quickly down low whereas the LT1/LS1 is much better for top end. My LS1 auto trapped at 105.79 stock. A stock LT1 (haven't seen a stock one in a long time) would be slower than that but not by a whole heck of a lot. You've obviously done some pretty good mods to your 5.0. Do you know how much power you're making up top? Also, the 3.55 gears in an auto will really hamper you from a highway roll, especially if it was from an 80 punch. I think that's why people seem to be skeptical. I know modded 5.0's can haul *****, I've learned that the hard way. Do you have any 1/4 mile times for your car?
By the time i got the car, did all the mods and was ready to go, the strips around here were closed for winter, so no time slips.

I do however plan to visit the Dyno once January rolls around and i have some discretionary days at my disposal. No vacation days left and I can't afford to take a day off without pay to find out how much HP I have, or as some people claim Don't have.

I will post what my dyno run results are as well as my time slips as soon as i getr them.

With the 3.55's you'd be surprised how hard and fast my car pulls to 120 from 80. At 80 I'm tachin 2.2k, so when i stomp it, it's right in the sweeet spot.

I tell ya what tho, if you guys think I'm fulla Shiiitte, then I can contact roundman, he's here from Richmond, If he's willing, I'll hook up with him, give him my car to drive, and he can post what he thinks of it.

Would that make you guys happier?

Some LT1's are getting very old and very beat. Could have happened. Old A4 LT1 with 200k on the clock, you never know. My friends 3.8 Bird runs fairly well though.

I ran a decently modified 5.0 SN95 a while back when I had my M6 LT1. From a dig he put about 2 cars on me to 85mph. From a roll, I put about 3 on him in a very short amount of time. He had DR's, what can I say. The guy I ran was slightly more modified than you and had 3.73's.

Now 3.73's, yep you'd pop his cork on a highway roll from 85. With those gears he's pretty much done by that speed.

My buddies 70SS Camaro has 3.83's and when he hits 110, that's it. But getting there is fast and FUN.

I love BIG BLOCKS.

ok. was it even a 4th gen bird or a 3rd gen? can we atleast figure that one out? and with your mods I don't think you would really be coming close to an LT1.
agreed

No, we ran from around a 10mph kick. It just took the launch out of it. Wasn't really that close from there. If we'd ran to 100'ish from a dig I'd more than likely have passed him.

A properly cared for LT1 really shouldn't get slower. It's a good solid motor, no longevity issues that I'm aware of. Depends on the owner I guess. Most owners seem to mod them to make them faster.

90LX50, I'm surprised that you're turning 2200 at 80 mph. If so then I have no doubt your car will do well from a highway punch. At 80 mph I'm turning 2000-2100 and I have 2.73 gears. A 60-80 punch is perfect for me, allows me to drop to 2nd and ride it up to 95. Then 3rd pulls pretty hard to, well, I dunno, 120 comes up with no hesitation and that's as far as I've gone. I would imagine yours is about the same way.
