Trouble Starting
Hi All,
been having trouble starting my '94 GT since summer. It's gradually gotten worse, turning over, but taking a long time to fire up. Recently, its left me stranded a few times, where it wouldn't start at all, but then the next day it would fire up, on the second or third turn of the key. I've just about replaced all the ignition now, with new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and ignition coil. Just checked the battery, its putting out a little better than 12V, and goes up to 14 after starting, so I guess the alternator is working fine. Last night, it wouldn't start at all, and then today its starts up, 2nd or 3rd turn again. Once it starts, it runs fine. Any ideas where to look next?
Thanks!

hook a fuel pressure gauge up and see what it shows when it won't start. If you don't have one, try changing the fuel filter.
Or better yet, pull a wire when it won't start to see if it is firing at all. If not, look at the dizzy.
EDIT: after realizing you have a 94, I would look at the ignition module. I was thinking a car like mine and is the reason why I said dizzy. Yours doesn't have the module on the dizzy. A module will act like you are describing. I replaced one on a 92 ranger today with a 2.3 that would crank once a day as long as it was cold outside. Thing is, the thing didn't look bad.

In a foxbody, if you hold your foot to the floor, it cuts the injectors off.
Really when you start a car, you are supposed to turn the key the run position and let the pump prime before starting.
What you are doing is priming the pump over and over and it is building fuel pressure because the regulator is holding it until the car gets enough to start.
You most likely need to replace the fuel filter and drop the tank also.

Well, the fuel pressure is good, about 35lb while running. When it starts, it runs great. It is starting more frequently now, as if the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ignition coil and module have helped, but the intermittant problem persists. Maybe one out of every 10 times, it will refuse to start, cranking and cranking but no fire. While turning over, but not starting, the presssure was 42lb, so I'm thinking its not the fuel pump. I walked away and came back a few hours later, and it started right up! What to check next?
