just a comment- the GT mufflers are different part numbers for automatics/stickshifts...Ive read the Stick mufflers are considerably louder...not sure if theres an easy way to tell them apart.

The part #s tell them apart.......?????
I made sure I got a GT manual and not an automatic one.
The part#s are on the mufflers at the dealership if you
like laying on your back. Or the parts counter at the stealership???

If the GT Manual mufflers are louder, might they also be better flowing and therefore better for performance - especially when used in a single configuration ?

I question the benefits of duals on a sixer as well. I love the looks of duals, but like Mr. Rogers (not of his Neighborhood fame), I have heard that putting duals on a sixer is too much exhaust throughput and the engine can't scavenge the exhaust gases, resulting in worse low-end torque. Unless you're running F/I, wouldn't duals just be too much? Anyone with empirical data to support or squash this idea?
The loss of low end tourqe is what I heard too. I agree there is nothing better looking than duals on the back of you car but after all the money and time I've spent getting every HP out of her I don't wanna give any up. I love my GT take-off and I thought I felt a decrease in low end tourque when I had the MRT on.
I LOVE the look of the black take-off defiantly doing that to mine now THANKS

I'm going to a muffler shop today to talk about converting to duals. I like my single GT Takeoff, but I want the look of duals. I am concerned about heat, and whether going duals could melt something. I'm also concerned about whether a big weld job would eventually fail, whether I should ask for an exhaust system that clamps together instead.

Last, the backpressure thing. Will it be bad for the eng? Bad for low-end torque? Oh, and I'm in Canada, too, so my mechanic will likely say, "Why d'you want duals, eh?"

Ken
I'm running all-Ford parts: x-pipe, GT mid-pipe & hangers, and GT take-off mufflers. There is NO drone and the sound is better than my wife's vert with a single GT take-off muffler. It's not loud until you put your right foot into it!

Being N/A, I cannot say that the duals have added anything to my car's performance, but it looks and sounds better. From what I've been reading, the "loss of backpressure" from duals on our 4.0L's is more of an urban legend dating back to old-school gearheads. I asked areputable tuner who said that the cats arerestrictive enough to preventa loss of backpressure on our cars.

I also went the all Ford way with the x pipe and all. It's only been a week since getting it done, but I do like it much better than the stock set up.

I just checked the GT takeoffs in my garage waiting to be installed on my new Pony when it arrives. The drivers side one is for manual, but the driver's side is for automatics. Does anyone have a single GT muffler installed that was intended for an automatic? Does it still sound decent? Because if the trade off is too big, I'll just unload these on eBay.

We had the top down today and the muffler sounds awesome. It's been about a year since I had it installed and I wouldn't change it for anything.

Ok guys, I always read alotta posts about the GT takeoff, so I figured I'd try and help. I have a 2006 V6 5-speed stang, and i put on a GT takeoff about 5000 miles ago. Since then I've noticed a huge difference in sound. When I first put it on, this is what it sounded like.
Idle - same as stock
Startup, a litle louder
Acceleration - throatier, but not really that much louder

After a little bit of driving, it seems the exhaust wore it a little bit. It became noticably louder, and is now like this:
Idle - low purr, especially with windows down, it seems pretty ballsy.
Startup - This is the best part, every morning im treated to a relatively loud idle while the car warms up
Acceleration - extremely throatier, MUCH louder then stock, but not obnoxious, but still sounds like an animal.

I really have barely noticed any drone on this muffler. To summarize, it can be loud when you want it to be, and quiet when you want it to be. Its great for my everyday driving. Sure, there are a couple of times when I wish i had straight pipes lol but this does the job just fine. Its loud enough, that when I drive around a parking lot, or down a crowded street, people always turn to look at the car making the noise!
I couldn't have said it better.
